Borrowed Time

Do you ever feel like you’re living on borrowed time?

As of today, I’m 32 weeks pregnant. Our last baby, was born at 31 weeks, and the one before that came at 36 weeks. After baby number two arrived, the thought that stuck in my head was “what happens if we keep going like this”? If number two came 5 weeks earlier than number one, would another baby come even earlier?

Now that we’ve surpassed the 31 week mark and there are no signs of labor in sight, I have to admit that I’m a little stressed out. I know the baby is going to be fine now, but can’t help but let my mind wander to the fact that the baby could come any time between tonight and 9 weeks from now. That’s a pretty huge range. I thought the waiting game was bad with our first daughter, but it didn’t last long. About as soon as I had the realization that she could come at any time, she did. Number two was born just two days after my OB told me I would stay in the hospital until the baby was born or I hit 38 weeks, whichever came first.

So, now we’re playing the waiting game. There are tons of things to do – websites to build, orders to ship, sales to close and laundry to keep up with. I don’t want to plan too far into the future, yet I certainly don’t want to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs, waiting for baby that ends up needing to be induced at 41 weeks.
