Early Detection is Key in Breast Cancer Survival

Did you know that the American Cancer Society estimates that 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States, and 40,480 will die of breast cancer this year? Thankfully, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is 90%, and that number is even higher if the cancer is caught early, while it is still confined to the breast.

Susan G KomenIn order to help raise awareness about the importance of early detection in breast cancer, critically acclaimed actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role as Miranda on the long-running television series Sex and the City, has joined Susan G. Komen for the Cure as an Ambassador. Cynthia is the daughter of a two time breast cancer survivor, and a breast cancer survivor herself. She is doing her part to raise awareness through a series of public service announcements available at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure website.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivor and activisits. The organization works to raise funds for breast cancer research, and spread public awareness about breast cancer detection and treatment.
