Mommy\'s Bliss Nipple CreamThe FDA has issued a warning to mothers to discontinue the use of Mommy’s Bliss Nipple Cream, marketed by MOM Enterprises Inc. According to the FDA, the cream, designed to soothe dry or cracked nipples, contains two ingredients which are potentially harmful to infants. These ingredients, chlorphenesin and phenoxyethanol, could cause respiratory distress, vomiting and diarrhea in infants. Together, the compounds can interact and case respiratory depression.

MOM Enterprises Inc. voluntarily stopped selling their product, but at this point, it can still be found on other online retailers. After receiving notification from the FDA, MOM Enterprises has published a bulletin on their website stating that:

“The product has been on the market for over a year and there have no consumer complaints. On the contrary, the feedback on the product has been very positive.

“The FDA also neglected to mention that the amount of chlorphenesin and phenoxyethanol in the product is minute relative to what is considered allowable for adults. Both chlorphenesin and phenoxyethanol are approved cosmetic preservatives and used extensively in many products. Our own ingredient experts have reviewed the FDA’s report as well as the related literature and found no basis for their concern. Overall, the FDA’s position is very perplexing.”

If you own the cream, it can be returned for a full refund.
