Fertell At Home Male and Female Fertility Test Kits
Since the FDA approved e.p.t.’s first home pregnancy test kit in the 70s, women have grown accustomed to being able to test for pregnancy in the comfort and privacy of their own home. Now couples can have the same sense of privacy and comfort while testing for common causes of both male and female infertility.
Fertell sells FDA cleared, at-home male and female fertility tests. The male version measures the concentration of motile sperm capable of swimming towards an egg and fertilizing it. The female version is used on day 3 of a woman’s period to measure the FSH in her urine, which is an indicator of whether her ovaries produce eggs suitable for fertilization. The men’s test gives results in about 80 minutes, and the women’s test takes just 30. According to Fertell, the tests are 95% accurate when compared to laboratory testing.
Fertell sells their tests in three different versions, a male version which retails for about $74.99, a female version which retails for $49.99, and a couples kit containing on male and one female test for $99.99.
While there are many other causes of infertility which aren’t addressed by Fertell, the Fertell kits can alert couples to potential fertility problems before a doctor would typically be willing to begin a fertility workup. Users are advised to call their doctor to discuss any abnormal results obtained using the Fertell home test kits. It seems like the test kits would be particularly useful for women who begin trying to conceive in their 30’s or later, when female fertility is typically on the decline, because an abnormal result could help them avoid wasting months of trying to conceive before getting an evaluation from a doctor.
