Human Body Detectives Makes Learning About Health Fun – What’s New Wednesday
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 5:00It seems as though my love of medicine has rubbed off on my oldest daughter. Maybe it was those 6 months she spent sitting in the back of the lecture hall with me before she turned one, or maybe it’s genetic. I guess we’ll never know for sure. Either way, as a homeschooling mom with a kid who loves science and medicine, I’m always looking for interesting and age appropriate ways to teach her about the human body.
When I found out abut Dr. Heather Manley and Human Body Detectives at Type-A Mom Conference, I knew I’d found a product that was right up our alley. The Human Body Detectives puts a fun and interesting spin on the different organ systems in the human body, through audio book adventures and workbooks.
The first Human Body Detectives adventure, The Lucky Escape, takes main characters Merrin and Pearl on a journey through their little brother’s digestive system in search of the cause of his tummy ache. The entertaining audio book tells the story, and the concepts are backed up with a 24 page workbook that includes puzzles, games and stickers!
My kids are 6, 3 and 2. The Human Body Detective workbook is geared towards elementary school aged children, but the audio book entertained them all. I know they’ve listened to the cd at least 5 times, and I’m sure I’ll be hearing it again and again! They’ve also been asking about when we can get more Human Body Detectives adventures.
A new adventure, Battle With the Bugs just became available on the Human Body Detectives website. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it soon! While you’re checking it out, browse around the rest of the site for free coloring pages and other free downloads, as well as Merrin and Pearl’s blogs!
Disclosure: The Lucky Escape was provided to me by the author, Dr. Healther Manley.
