As a part of our family’s efforts towards improving both our overall health, and our impact on the environment, we began to look more closely at the products we put both in and on our bodies. We spent a long time searching on the web for body care products that we could feel good about using on ourselves and our kids, yet still worked.

Then, about a year ago, we had the good fortune of meeting Elissa and Jerèll Klaver, founders of Salus. Salus is a bath and body care company that carries a wide range of unscented products including lotions, creams, bath salts and shampoo/conditioner that can be customized to your liking with essential oils and other fragrances. They also carry facial care products, handmade soaps and bath bombs and their own, specially formulated Muscle Relief Gel. Salus products are phthalate free, and most are also free of parabens and sulfates.

One of my all time favorite Salus bath products is their Moisture Fizz Bath Bomb. With cocoa butter and shea butter, their name does not lie. Moisture fizz bath bombs really are a moisturizing treat for a relaxing bath. They come in a variety of scents, with my favorites so far being coconut lemongrass and cinnamon. When you use these, you come out of the tub feeling like you’ve just applied a really nice lotion, which is perfect during long, dry Colorado winters.

If you’re an athlete, or suffer from every day aches and pains from arthritis or toting around a heavy toddler, Salus Muscle Relief Gel (MRG) is another product I’d recommend. MRG is a topical pain relief gel which contains menthol as the active ingredient, for cooling and soothing pain relief. Muscle Relief Gel also contains just the right blend of arnica, capsaicin, aloe and essential oils to help soothe and heal, without a harsh scent or burning sensation. MRG is organic, paraben free, and is tested on humans – not animals. It’s a topical pain relief product we can feel good about using on ourselves, and our kids.

Sounds interesting. It’s funny that so many people that are careful about what they put in their bodies, aren’t as aware of what they put on their bodies…isn’t it?

Your observation is totally right. I love all the Salus products I’ve tried, and I think the people behind them are great too. It’s a win-win!

Thanks for looking into these products Kristie. My family is in agreement. We try to do things as naturally as possible without being to extreme. When a product has been given the thumbs up by a reputable source, we seriously consider implementing it in our own lives. This include anything from sunscreen to toothpaste. -Nate
