Other Uses for Cloth Diapers
Monday, February 1, 2010 14:36I haven’t been in the mood for blogging much lately, but I got a little inspiration today while watching the younger two kids making some sort of crazy creation out of a stack of cloth diapers they were “folding”. So, for those of you wondering what in the world you are going to do with those cloth diapers you got at your shower and never used, or the diapers left over from your long since potty trained kids, here are a few ideas . . .
For Baby
- If you’ve never tried it, use them as they were intended – as cloth diapers! If your winters are anything like ours, you never know when you might find yourself snowed in without enough disposables. Being able to use cloth diapers in a pinch is a valuable skill!
- Pull out your swing machine and turn them into prefitteds.
- Fold them in thirds or quarters and use them to stuff pocket diapers.
- Use smaller sized prefolds as doublers for overnight.
- Cloth diapers make awesome burp cloths. You can even add ribbon or fabric embellishments to make them into a nice baby shower gift.
- Use them as a changing pad – they are soft, and super absorbent if there are any “accidents.”
- Clean up messes from potty training accidents.
Sewing Projects
- Make mama cloth (if you don’t know what this is, and you’re squeamish, don’t Google it).
- Cut and stack to make padding for inside hot pads, oven mits, etc.
- Make doll diapers.
Household Uses
- Use as dust cloths.
- Use to clean and polish glass.
- Use to polish and buff shoes.
- Use to wash and buff your car.
- Use instead of paper towels to clean up wet spills.
- Use in place of throw away packaging to pad fragile objects for shipping.
- Pad between straps, bungees and your vehicle to prevent scratching when hauling large objects.
- Use as a washable pad for your swiffer or other mop.
First Aid
- Bandage.
- Cover for an ice pack.
- Sling.
Pets
- Clean up accidents while house training.
- Line crate or bed.
- Use in place of disposable puppy pads.
- Use to dry your pet after a bath.
That’s all I can come up with at the moment, but I should probably go ahead and hit publish before I fall asleep of forget about this post completely. Any other ideas?

Great ideas! When my son out grows his flats I’m going to cut them up and use them as dust cloths-but I like the doll diaper idea, I might have to do that too!
