| It seems that nearly every day lately, we are bombarded with yet another product safety scare from China. The latest include lead paint and harmful magnets in Mattel toys, formaldehyde in pajamas and blankets, and now, dirty “recycled” chopsticks!! Can it get much more revolting than that? | ||
| These stories come on the tails of contaminated pet food, lead paint in Thomas the Tank Engine and Sesame Street toys, vinyl baby bibs and lunch containers contaminated with lead, and numerous other product safety problem in the past year. On top of this, we face numerous other problems related to farming out work to other countries, including poor customer service direct from call centers in India, and decreasing manufacturing, fuel and food production capabilities in our own country. This is where our current business and consumer mindset of needing to produce and own everything imaginable for the cheapest possible price comes back to bite us. | ||
| So, when will Americans stand up and say no? No to imports from China, no to customer service call centers in India, and most importantly no to giving up our own country’s ability to be a self reliant and self sustaining nation. | ||
| If you’re thinking about boycotting Chinese products, you might want to check out A Year Without “Made in China”: One Family’s True Life Adventure in the Global Economy, a book which details the struggles the author and her family go through trying to live for a year without buying anything carrying the “Made in China” label. | ||

I don’t think it is economically or strategically in any nation’s best interest to lose the means of production. Since we have cashed in quality, customer service and stability, for $50 DVD players, we now have a growing problem of lethal products being imported from China. These products range from formaldehyde laden blankets, to unwashed, recycled chopsticks. [...]
