Prematurity Awareness Month Link Love
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 21:46
Every day throughout November, I have dedicated myself to publishing a post in honor of Prematurity Awareness Month. I haven’t been working alone though. All over the web, parents and relatives of preemies have been doing their part to raise awareness by sharing their own thoughts and experiences of prematurity. Today, I’m going to share some links to just a few of the posts I’ve come across so far this month. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to list them all, so please browse through the Prematurity Awareness Blogroll in my sidebar to see what others have to say.
To start off the month, Laura at Adventures in Juggling shared why she signed the Petition for Preemies, and encouraged others to do the same. Then, BostonWriter shared the story of his son Sam and how prematurity and high-risk pregnancy has impacted his family.
Cara at The Household Helper shared two excellent posts discussing the emotional and financial impacts of prematurity, including $715,000 in medical bills, while Darcy at Life With My 3 Boybarians helped dispel the notion that later preterm babies are always unscathed by their early arrival. She further highlighted the longterm medical impacts of prematurity when she blogged about her son’s first ever year without a hospitalization since he was born – it took him more than 5 years to hit that milestone.
That’s it for tonight. I hope you all enjoy checking out a few of the other sites who are Blogging for Prematurity Awareness.

People have no idea what it is to have a preemie. I didn’t until we were thrust into a 3 month long journey with our 26.5 weeker. Educating people is really important and I also think that it is important to help those who are in the NICU to know that there are some options.
One thing we found very helpful in helping us to feel kind of normal was the ability to dress this ever so tiny little girl. She looked looked so different then what you expect of a baby. Finding little clothes that really fit her was so nice. We loved dressing her and so did her nurses.
We got so much joy from it that we wanted others to have a choice in some really nice little things for preemies, so AvaBaby’s was born. If dressing your preemie is something you would like to do, then please come take a look. http://www.avababys.com Come and see what we have found for you and maybe you will feel like we did, it was time well spent bonding and healing.
